Dear Customer,
As per an RBI advisory, a new form of fraud is on the rise.
The modus operandi is that fraudsters register with service providers using phone numbers similar to a Bank’s Toll free number. For instance, SBM Bank’s Toll free number is “1800 1033 817”, so fraudsters could register and record a look-alike number say, “800 1033 817” under the name of SBM Bank Customer Care with popular caller identification mobile apps such as TrueCaller and other platforms such as Justdial, Google, Facebook and Twitter. The result is that an incoming call from the said fake number could show up as ‘SBM Bank Customer Care’ on your phone. Our objective is to caution and safeguard you from these fraudulent tactics.
To stay safe from potential fraud:
Never share your card number, expiry date, PIN, OTP with anyone.
Avoid searching for helpline or customer care numbers on Google, Facebook, Twitter, Justdial or on TrueCaller app. Visit the website instead.
