In todays fast-pace world the traditional way of doing banking transactions is fast becoming a thing of the past Thanks to faster internet speed connections and more and people owning desktops laptops and smartphones every aspect of banking transaction can now be executed through just a click of the mouse Rather than visiting bank branches the younger generation and the middle-aged consumers today prefer making online payments ordering a cheque book paying utility other bills fund transfers and even opening a fixed deposit account through online banking services Surely online banking has become very convenient but the moot question is how to make online transactions hacker free
Along with added convenience also comes added risk, as one misstep could find your account been accessed by online hackers, and in the blink of an eye your balance could be reduced to zero. In the past few years, rising cases of online fraudsters hacking the accounts to swindle money has made many banking customers wary of using the online services. Without putting your financials at risk, here are some of the steps for safe online banking.
3) Always create a unique and strong password with 10-14 characters long, combining upper case and lower case characters, numbers and symbols. Always refrain from storing your password in a document on your computer as it could be hacked with spyware. A rule of thumb is to change the password every few months. Ensure that you don't give your password to anybody. In fact, the bank will never ask for your password over the phone or email. In case, you receive a notification that you need to update your account, chances are this is a scam. 4) A user should never login to his bank account from a public network i.e, should not use wi-fi access at a coffee shop or a hotel because his password, username and other information that you type on your computer could be visible to anyone. So, always remember to check your bank account on a secure network like your workplace or at home where you have anti-virus protection and encrypted access. 5) In order to protect against malware and spyware on your computer, use anti-virus software to regularly scan your computer for illegal programs that could be aimed at stealing your personal information. For additional protection, always install a LAN-based or wi-fi router with password protection as that will add as an additional layer of protection for your sensitive data. 6) Finally, a user should clear cache at least once a week because passwords and online preferences that are stored on your internet browser may reveal a lot about you if accessed by intruders. The best practice is clear the cache every day. Also, don't hesitate to call your 24-hour online banking service of your bank whenever you have any doubt regarding an email or a questionable action in your account history.
